You know you're a mom when................

Last night I ran to Salem to return something I had bought and on the way out of the house, I realized I had left my house keys and cell phone locked nice and tight inside the house.  Not a big deal because while Tony wasn't home yet, I figured he'd be back by the time I got home.

So I ran my errand in Salem and it went a whole lot quicker than I expected.  SO, I figured I'd stop by Winco and see how much their baby food was.  Kaylee was having a blast in the cart, so I wandered around and did some grocery shopping.  I hadn't noticed it, but Kaylee had dropped her binky in the cart and was looking down at it.  Her attention started at the binky and immediately went for the groceries in the cart.

One of the things she grabbed was a frozen pizza box (yes, we eat healthy at my house).  Without thinking, I grabbed the pizza out of her hand, moved it to elsewhere in the cart and kept walking without missing a beat.  I took a few steps and then stopped dead in my tracks.  That whole sequence of events would've went much differently before I became a mom.

I've also started to realize that I've become much more tolerant of kids' toys that make noise.  **This is NOT an open invitation to give Kaylee the most annoying toys you can find.**  There are already plenty of friends and family who break this rule... but I digress.  Before Kaylee, I could hardly stand noisy toys.  The same songs or phrases playing over and over.  Now, with most of Kaylee's toys, I know what songs are coming next and find myself humming along with them or not even paying that much attention to the fact that they're playing at all.  Probably because when she's happy, I'm happy.

I've always felt like I've had no real maternal instinct, so this whole unconscious thinking is a bit trippy.  Don't care how it all happens as long as the kid turns out ok. *grins*
